Assessment of The Marine Water Quality Along Selangor State's Coastline

Abstract

Marine water quality cleanliness is very important to care for sustaining marine biodiversity, protecting public health and support the coastal economic activities. Selangor coastline plays a vital role especially in fisheries and tourism industry. Because of there have many development and human activities along the coastal region, its maybe can degrade the quality of marine water that will affect the marine life and human activities if not properly monitored. Assessing marine water quality is essential to ensure compliance with Malaysian Marine Water Quality Standard (MMWQS) that was established by Malaysian Department of Environment (DOE) and serves as an early warning system for potential pollution.This study aims to evaluate the marine water quality at selected locations along the Selangor coastline through analyzing key parameter and classifying the level of the water quality based on the Malaysia Marine Water Quality Index (MMWQI). The study location was selected based on their surrounding activities and coastal development and sampling was conducted by in-situ analysis method and laboratory analysis. The finding data from this assessment was give the valuable insight into the impact of the uncontrolled anthropogenic activities along the coastal region to the marine ecosystem and coastal communities, which aiding the local authorities to strengthening mitigation method, and promoting the sustainable coastal management.
